Recommind Announces Support for New XML Standard for eDiscovery
Press release: Enterprise Search and Categorization Innovator Amongst Industry Leaders Addressing Prevalent eDiscovery Challenges
SAN FRANCISCO, October 24, 2007– Recommind, a leading provider of enterprise search, automatic categorization and eDiscovery systems for law firms and enterprises, today announced support for a new Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard for eDiscovery developed by the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project, an industry group created to develop and establish practical guidelines and standards for electronic discovery (www.edrm.net). The new XML standard allows for the simple, standardized transfer of electronically stored information (ESI) to and from various applications and organizations involved in different phases of the eDiscovery process. The types of ESI covered by this standard include fundamental discovery materials, such as email messages and attachments, and standalone files like office documents, OCR, imaged paper and information in databases, as well as many other document formats. Support for this new technology further demonstrates Recommind’s commitment to a unified series of standards that will benefit the entire industry and solidifies its role at the forefront of the eDiscovery space. Recommind’s vice president of product management, David Baskin, led the EDRM Project Working Group tasked with finalizing the XML standard.
“David Baskin’s leadership, contribution, and dedication to the EDRM project helped the group make great and rapid progress. The XML standard ratified last week addresses a major pain point within electronic discovery – moving and formatting the different types of data across all of these disparate systems – and is an important step towards streamlining this process,” said George Socha, co-founder of EDRM and president of Socha Consulting LLC. “By adopting the XML standard, Recommind is further asserting its leadership position in the industry. The EDRM project is grateful to both David Baskin and Recommind for their continued support in creating greater efficiencies within the eDiscovery process.”
The EDRM XML schema benefits include:
* Reduction in the cost of moving data from one step to the next, one program to the next, one organization to the next
* Reduction in errors associated with that movement of data
* Reduction in electronic discovery software development costs and shortened development cycles
* Increased transparency of the entire electronic discovery process
“As a proven innovator in the eDiscovery and enterprise search space, Recommind has long recognized the need for unified industry standards,” said David Baskin, vice president of product management at Recommind and leader of EDRM’s XML Schema Project. “Recommind is confident that the EDRM Project’s new XML standard will help eDiscovery practitioners reduce the cost, time and manual work associated with eDiscovery. Recommind is pleased to announce its support for this standard, which will ultimately provide tremendous benefits to our customers.”
In addition to his position in Recommind’s executive team, Mr. Baskin has played a key leadership role with the EDRM Project since its existence. Mr. Baskin heads the XML Schema Project, the EDRM working group consisting of technologists and lawyers from the leading e-discovery vendors, service providers, law firms and corporate end-users responsible for developing this new XML standard.
