iCONECT Lends XML Expertise to EDRM’s Creation of an XML Standard
Press release: Los Angeles, CA (November 9, 2007) – iCONECT was one of the first litigation software companies to implement an XML standard for its products, and has contributed its XML expertise to the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) project to develop an industry-wide Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard to facilitate easy transfer of electronically stored information (ESI) to and from applications involved in different phases of the discovery process.
iCONECT was an active participant in various EDRM working groups and is now taking a leadership role in promoting the EDRM XML Schema to become an approved OASIS standard.
iCONECT products already have XML import and export features that enable clients to automate creating and updating databases. Manual steps such as creating a database structure are bypassed. Instead, XML load files provide the structure, data, image links and any other information required to load data or create a new database.
“The new XML standard reinforces our commitment to saving our client’s time and money and providing users with the most efficient workflow possible,” said Ian Campbell, Chief Operating Officer of iCONECT Development, LLC. “iCONECT has long been an advocate of XML as a standard. We fully support the initiative and are proud to be an active part of its design and implementation.”
The EDRM’s XML standard consists of a schema definition that will allow all parties to consistently describe documents of all types as they move through the e-discovery process; a validation tool to quickly and efficiently confirm that files conform to the XML standard; and an XML compliance process to help the parties determine whether individual applications conform to the standard.
“When working with clients on project workflow I recognize the great need for standardization. Moving information through the stages of litigation has become a difficult task. The adoption of the EDRM XML schema will alleviate this pressure point,” said Cathy Story, Senior Consultant of iCONECT Development, LLC. Story and other iCONECT representatives attended EDRM Meetings in the past year in St Paul, Minnesota.
