Proposing ENF, a New Standard for Managing Native Files

July 11, 2013 – In a pair of white papers published today, EDRM member Wade Peterson, writing on behalf of the EDRM Native Files Project, proposes the creation and adoption of a new ENF (encapsulated native file) standard for the production of native files.\r\n\r\nIn Can Native File Productions be ENF (Enough)?, Peterson presents the conceptual framework for defining the new standard.\r\n\r\nIn This is Just About ENF, he illustrates a sample ENF, describes some of its elements, and describes the operation of a basic utility to view ENF files.\r\n\r\nAbout Wade Peterson\r\nWade Peterson is the Director of Practice Support at Bowman and Brooke LLP, a national product defense firm. Wade’s career spans 40 years in legal technology including development, IT management, and Litigation Support. As Director of Practice Support, he manages the firms litigation support services including eDiscovery; forensics; graphics; custom case and document databases, reviews and productions. His responsibilities include: organizational structure and staff; establish software systems, procedures, standards and processes; oversee production operations; marketing to internal clients; prepare quotes and budgets; and researching and adopting new technology. Wade is an active member of EDRM, ACEDS, OLP, ILTA, and ALA.\r\n\r\nAbout EDRM\r\nEDRM creates practical resources to improve eDiscovery and Information Governance. Launched in May 2005, EDRM was created to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the eDiscovery market. EDRM published the Electronic Discovery Reference Model in January 2006, followed by additional resources such as IGRM, CARRM and the Talent Task Matrix. Since its launch, EDRM has comprised more than 260 organizations, including 170 service and software providers, 63 law firms, three industry groups and 23 corporations involved with eDiscovery.
