Welcome to the October issue of EDRM Update!
\r\nIssue 2 – October 2013\r\n\r\nIt’s been a busy and exciting month, so we have lots of important news to share…\r\n\r\nEarlier this week marked the release of the EDRM Collection Standards, which offer guidance for developing reasonable collection strategies. The standards are posted on the EDRM website for review and comment until November 15th, after which they will be finalized. A big thanks goes out to the dedicated team who developed the initiative and saw it through over the past few months.\r\n\r\nThe EDRM mid-year meeting was held in St. Paul on October 10-11. In addition to significant progress made on several important projects at the meeting, the decision was made to begin the process of transitioning EDRM to a non-profit organization. We recap the meeting below, including the changes that lie ahead for EDRM.\r\n\r\nBe sure to check out the upcoming webinars schedule with EDRM. Fall is a busy season for education and our sponsors have developed some great programs, available at no charge to EDRM members and non-members alike.\r\n\r\nRead on for more on these and other news from EDRM.\r\n\r\nGeorge Socha & Tom Gelbmann\r\n\r\nTo receive the newsletter, subscribe to our list\r\n[contentblock id=1344]\r\n\r\n[toc]\r\n\r\n

In the EDRM Pipeline
\r\nEDRM will begin to make the transition from its current structure as an LLC to a nonprofit. An advisory board will help oversee the organization’s transition, with the goal of completing the change by May 2014.\r\n\r\nEDRM will make changes to the Electronic DIscovery Reference Model diagram to reflect the earlier change in the name of Information Governance Reference Model (IGRM) and to emphasis the iterative nature of the processes depicted by the diagram.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Data Set group is in the process of redesigning the EDRM Privacy & Security Risk Reduction Model diagram – a tool designed to be used as a process roadmap for organizations that want to isolate risky data that needs to be protected or removed from data sets such as customer databases, e-discovery productions, or other types of data repository.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Metrics group is (a) reviewing and annotating e-discovery budgeting toolkits submitted in response to its public call and will be publishing that information shortly; (b) preparing a survey about e-discovery costs incurred by clients and how clients manage those costs; and (c) developing a Metrics Maturity Model.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Native Files group continues to work on its .ENF standard and related materials. The group also will begin developing an EDRM Hash Value Standard.\r\n\r\nEDRM’s Search group is taking on two new initiatives, “Search and Visualization” and “Search and Foreign Language Character Sets (CJK)”.\r\n\r\nThe EDRM XML group’s efforts will be folded into the Native Files group.\r\n\r\nThe IGRM group is preparing an article, “Digital Debris – It is Time to Clean House. On December 5, the group will deliver a webinar in collaboration with the CGOC (Compliance, Governance, and Oversight Council).\r\n\r\n

With some of the Evergreen work, we literally “wrote the book” on standard processes. In Metrics, we’re working on benchmarking projects which will define key steps in “e-discovery project management” and set the framework for understanding, and managing e-discovery costs.\r\n\r\n
