Weekly Letter to Our Global Community – 17 May 22

Letter to our EDRM Global Community 17 May 22

Dear EDRM Community,

The word for this week is label.  Pundits argue over whether what is happening in Ukraine can be called genocide, and whether what happened in Buffalo can be called domestic terrorism.  Using publicly available aggregated Census data to determine the highest concentration of black souls, an 18 year old clad in body armor entered a grocery store and killed seniors and shoppers with an AK-47 emblazoned with a racist slur.  US women and those who love them are bracing for the Supreme Court’s pronouncement on reproductive care and the definition of human life. Infants and vulnerable children are running out of life sustaining formula even as a genetic marker for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) has been discovered.

In legal tech this week, Doug Austin reviews Fitbit cases and Ralph Losey explores Robophobia.  eDiscovery’s technology underpinnings like metadata and entity extraction, sentiment analysis, clustering and redaction capabilities are also being looked at for content moderation, and to surface violations of new laws criminalizing those who care for people seeking to transition their gender or to end their pregnancy.

The transactional side is pulling in investment to slice, dice and label elements of the revenue generating sales process along with the procurement process. Richard Tromans of Artificial Lawyer has an overview.  EDRM’s Trusted Partner Onna will deliver a webinar on contract issues using their platform also applicable to address new data sources for classic eDiscovery.

EDRM Guardian Plus Partner, Everlaw, and EDRM are putting the finishing touches on our roadshow featuring Maura Grossman, Chuck Kellner and Mary Mack to Chicago, New York and LA starting June 1.  Let us save a seat for you.  Register early for the roadshows here.  Hear about the CLE’s, networking opportunities and COVID precautions to allow a gentle re-entry into regional conference gatherings with an international flair.
