Weekly Letter to Our Global Community – 11 Apr 2023

Letter to the EDRM Global Community April 11, 2023

Dear EDRM Community,

The word of the week is turbulence.  Russia is presiding over the UN Security Council.  Israel retaliated for rockets being fired from Syria.  China held war games as a bipartisan US delegation held meetings with Taiwan.  A bank robbery gone wrong resulted in multiple casualties in Kentucky, while in neighboring Tennessee, hearings were held whether to reinstate a legislator, one of the Tennessee Three, where the two black legislators were ejected for leading a protest over lack of action on gun laws sparked by a school shooting the week before. The white legislator was not ejected. Unionization comes to legal:  Mlex and FTC Watch staffers form union

EDRM 2.0 project is in full launch phase with the updated EDRM diagram.  Subteams and the governing leadership are in formation this month.  Reach out to info@edrm.net to get involved.  See the Q&A by Legaltech News’ Isha Marathe here. See Law 360’s Sarah Martinson’s article here.

In legal tech this week, hospitals are waking up to the pixel tracking on their sites with HIPAA implications. Ukrainian war intelligence was leaked with documents being examined by Bellingcat for accuracy.  Policing software was found to be full of errors.  A New York law firm was fined $200K for a data breach on an unpatched system.  Stanford looks at whether Section 230 protects ChatGPT and Large Language Models.  John Tredennick, fresh from a Flash Ripped from the Headlines Webinar on the open letter to stop GPT development (with Dr. Maura R. Grossman and Johannes “Jan” Scholtes), will show us  How-To step by step to help you or your colleagues get started to experiment with ChatGPT on Wednesday 4/13.
