Dear EDRM Community,
The word of the week is strike.
The bells rang across England for the Coronation of King Charles III with Ukrainian colors visible as the Wagner Group threatened to quit on the eve of the Spring Offensive. The Hollywood Writer’s strike illustrates the stakes for creative workers as AI enters labor negotiations. IBM announced a hiring pause to see how AI would impact 7800 open positions. The New York Times gives us a glimpse of why data scientists might be raising alarms on AI: Scientists are turning thoughts into words by interpreting brain scans with LLMs, raising the possibility of an API for the human mind (Patently-O).
In legal tech this week, large layoffs underscore a tightening in our community and we continue to assist in connecting those impacted with the teams in hiring mode. Even Lexis has an AI enabled product now. Greg Bufithes shares his perspective on the AI moment. Apple, Google and others are creating standards about trackable tags to reduce their use in stalking, standards that can be instructive for IoT evidence. Forensics genius David Cowen surfaced the Solar Winds hack.
