Weekly Letter to Our Global Community – 6 Sept 22

EDRM Letter to our Global Community: 6 Sep 2022

Dear EDRM Community,

The phrase of the week is full contact.

Rolling blackouts due to wildfires and energy shortages due to pipelines being closed have households measuring electric use granularly. (HT @EllenAMilligan).  A special master will be appointed to review the Mar-a-Lago documents.  Barbara Ehrenreich, giving voice to those who struggle economically, passed this week and we offer Studs Terkel’s interview with her.

In legal tech this week, as high season opens, Exterro announced E-Discovery Day will be December 1.  Once again, EDRM is a proud sponsor.  Chris Dale covered our trusted partner, Relativity’s acquisition of Heretik.  Microsoft uses a scream test for IG to retire old servers. After a public campaign to stop online threats against a Twitch streamer, Cloudflare dropped Kiwi Farms.  Brian Krebs explored the IRL tactics of Violence as a Service.  And ILTA released its Technology survey.

EDRM published its “Using Special Masters and Discovery Mediators to Resolve eDiscovery Disputes: A Bench Book for Judges and Attorneys 2022 Edition, Public Comment Version.” Comments are accepted through September 29, 2022.  EDRM also announced that we will make our Ripped from the Headlines: Flash Webinar Series a recurring event.

Gayle O’Connor Spirit Award Nominations are now open. The Gayle O’Connor (GO) Spirit Award celebrates members of the e-discovery and legal technology communities whose singular energy, enthusiasm and verve echo the spirit of the late Gayle O’Connor (1956-2020). The GO Spirit Award is given to an individual in the legal profession who best exemplifies Gayle O’Connor’s spirit and work ethic by serving as an example for other individuals in the profession through attitude, collegiality, energy and accomplishments thereby serving as a positive example for not just those in the legal industry but all people.

Wednesday, September 7, we’ll be discussing the Mar-a-Lago documents issues in “Ripped From the Headlines: Mystery of the Mar-a-Lago Docs & the Special Master” a flash webinar in a fireside chat format with the Hon. Magistrate Judge Kristen L. Mix (D. Colorado) in conversation with Dr. Maura R. Grossman, and moderated by EDRM’s CEO and chief technology officer, Mary Mack, CISSP.

Thursday, September 8, Craig Ball and Mary Mack will be “Ripped From the Headlines: Alex Jones Driving Blind” to talk about the consequences of Jones’ counsel passing around a “white hard drive” bearing no label or markings, nothing whatsoever advising the drive held privileged attorney-client records and court-protected documents.
