Dear EDRM community,

The word of the week is automation.

Eschewing faxes, patients now must have access to their digital health records per STAT.  600 souls lost and over a million displaced in an extreme flood in Nigeria, as Pakistan, Puerto Rico and Florida continue to recover. Wildfires are burning on the west coast, and air quality is impacted far and wide (low cost DIY air filter).  Professor Bill Henderson analyzed the results of Arizona and Utah’s legal regulatory reforms.  As commercial drone delivery launches in the US, drones are bombing civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.  Lawyers are being arrested in Iran as protests escalate. BNY Mellon will hold crypto.  Iowa calls for attorneys to be poll workers.

In legal tech this week, voice verification meets biometric privacy.  Wired reviews personal safety devices for walking in today’s world. Richard Tromans of Artificial Lawyer is on a tear looking at the legal vertical in light of economic headwinds.  Congratulations to EDRM Trusted Partner Everlaw the Enterprise category in the American Legal Technology Awards.The Internet Archive Honors Carl Malamud with their 2022 Hero Award as Ralph Losey’s looks at the Pacer privacy problem in  Spider-Man Entangled in an e-Filing Privacy Battle. David R. Cohen lists  Lessons from the Alex Jones Trials including “not blaming the paralegal.” The Illumination Zone conversed with Everlaw CEO AJ Shankar as Everlaw Launches New Global Strategic Partnership Program.

E-Discovery Day Activities Have Begun.  The official celebration date is December 1, 2022, and along with the educational activities, the day’s founder, Exterro, is hosting a Kahoots networking event with David A. Greetham at the mic. The Gayle O’Connor Spirit Award Nominations are open until October 25 and will be presented on e-Discovery Day. The Gayle O’Connor (GO) Spirit Award celebrates members of the e-discovery and legal technology communities whose singular energy, enthusiasm and verve echo the spirit of the late Gayle O’Connor (1956-2020).
