It is with great sadness that we honor Robert Childress, Masters Conference founder and eDiscovery serial entrepreneur, in his passing. Diagnosed several years ago and given the timeframe of weeks to live, Robert instead sought out treatment near and far, established and experimental. He often made calls from his hospital bed, and flew to attend his many conferences through his illness. For survivors and family members of those with cancer, Robert became a beacon of hope, sharing his challenges and successes as his illness ebbed and flowed.

Kaylee and I were beneficiaries of his generous spirit and we collaborated when we could though the years. Kaylee served on the Masters cabinet for several years and Kaylee and Mary were invited by Robert to speak at many Masters events.

During 2018, Robert gifted us with an appearance at Drinks for Doug and Mary, in New York City, during Legaltech. Doug Austin honored Robert here: Doug Austin on eDiscovery Today.

Greg Bufithis sent his crew from Project Counsel Media to cover the event, and they interviewed many of our friends and partners.

Greg Bufithis posted Robert’s interview today, and we are proud to amplify Robert’s presence, vision and words.

From Kaylee:

Brilliant tribute to Robert E Childress III, as we are all so saddened as a community by his recent passing, by cyber flaneur Gregory Bufithis– that was a magical event and your team made it even more special by showing up with lights, cameras and in the moment interviews. This a great memory and I completely agree with Chris Dale in his tribute to Robert here: https://chrisdaleoxford.com/2021/04/14/farewell-to-robert-childress-the-ediscovery-events-organiser-who-knew-everybody/

Greg shares; “In his post, Chris Dale noted that Robert had an ability to spot coming trends and get them on his agendas. Chris nails it. In 2018 at a Masters Conference event Robert had talked about what he saw as a change in eDiscovery finance: big outside-the-industry investment money was coming into vendors. The “Mom & Pop” days of self-financing were ending.”
