Dear EDRM Community,

The word of the week is competition.

Microsoft’s LinkedIn will verify the employers of people in collaboration with Clear. Amazon announces AI enabling tools on the AWS platform. Google will release Magi, its AI as it meets competition for search. The National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) is looking for input on how to audit AI. Brad Smith, Microsoft President, said the Russians have penetrated video games.

In legal tech this week, Kristen Sonday of Paladin on funding justice tech. Fox was sanctioned in the Dominion suit for withholding evidence. Doug Austin covered a criminal case with a twist of both Google and Apple Watch data and another case with fraudulent text messages. ComplexDiscovery looks at ChatGPT, magic and hallucinations and released the results of their Spring 2023 eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey.

EDRM Announces the EDRM Detroit Symposium June 1-2, kicking off with a reception, a Craig Ball keynote, education with Judicial Stories of eDiscovery Disasters, a You Be the Judge interactive CLE, project team overviews and collaboration and more.

EDRM Cross Platform Duplicate Identification Specification, EDRM Message ID Hash (MIH) got quite a bit of attention.  The MIH Toolkit includes the specification, guidelines for use, a one-page infographic and a white paper authored by Craig Ball.  In addition, two new tools were published:  An Excel calculator using webservices rather than macros, and a method to calculate the hash in Notepad.  Two webinars open to the community were held and recorded for later replay with Trustee Beth Patterson, Craig Ball, Matt Golab and Ian Folkman. Access the recording here 24×7.

The Privilege Log project released its Privilege Log 2.0 protocol, also for public comment.  The Public Comment Period is complete and the project team is considering the input. 

The State Rules Project is looking for some contributors to fill out the rest of the US map.  See if your state is covered here
