Dearest EDRM Community,

The  word of the week is rapid.

The Federal Judicial Center released case studies from US election litigation. The FDA approved the first gene editing CRISPR therapy for patients, with sickle cell anemia receiving the nod. The US vetoed a UN Security Council call for a cease fire in Gaza. The University of Pennsylvania’s president resigned after US Congressional testimony regarding what speech advocating genocide is acceptable on campus.  No subscription necessary, but an account is needed to use Google’s new AI Gemini, available now in the Google Bard interface.  ars Technica published a quick comparison of Gemini to ChatGPT.

In Legal Tech this week

The EU was first out with its Responsible Artificial Intelligence Act. TheUK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is making inquiries on whether the Microsoft-OpenAI collaboration is a merger.Stephanie Wilkins declares legal tech took center stage this year for law.com.  Justice Tech, focused on democratizing and increasing access to legal services for consumers emerged as a segment with a trade group. In an E-Discovery Day surprise, Doug Austin, Editor at eDiscovery Today blog unmasked Gates Dogfish, who was an anonymous LinkedIn meme-master.

Kaylee and Mary thank the Gayle O’Connor Spirit Award Committee with Tom and Seamus O’Connor representing Gayle and her family for bestowing this year’s honor upon us.

As genetic sites move to require two-factor authentication, the 23andMe breach is still unfolding.  ComplexDiscovery introduced us to fintech’s younger cousin, insurtech.

EDRM’s 200th Tuesday community support call will be held today, Tuesday, December 12. We are grateful for those who gather to offer support, and honor the courage of those coming for the first time to request support. A special shoutout to our support call pillars VSM Craig Ball, Darius Bennett, Dr. Jeremy Pickens and Tom Gelbmann.

Kaylee and Mary thank the Gayle O’Connor Spirit Award Committee with Tom and Seamus O’Connor representing Gayle and her family for bestowing this year’s honor upon us.

The 4th annual 2024 eDiscovery Today State of the Industry Report Survey is open and ready for your input. This survey, sponsored by EDRM, is designed to gather insights from eDiscovery professionals across the industry, shedding light on the latest trends and developments that continue to shape our dynamic field.

EDRM ends the year with five blockbuster webinars from a product showcase demonstrating cell phone collection without a kit, to automation strategies for legal at scale, to Ethics and Governance for Legal Professionals in an AI-Driven world.

We have a fabulous finish to the week with Bob Zeidman returning to catch us up on his Part 2, after being invited by Mike Lindell to validate election hacks, Bob unraveled a web of manipulated data and dangerous conspiracy theories. His findings not only led to a groundbreaking $5 million arbitration award but also exposed a scandal reaching the upper echelons of political leadership in America. Bob has written a recently published book about his experience entitled “Election Hacks: Zeidman v. Lindell: Exposing the $5 million Election Myth” available on Amazon.
