Global Legal Tech Developments: Mary Meeker is back with her legendary deck and included legal (Harvey) in her analysis. Damien Charlotin brought a global perspective to his database of AI hallucination cases. EDRM Trusted Partner Redgrave LLP welcomed John Collins as Managing Director in Chicago. A cryptocurrency investor was arrested for kidnapping and torturing a man for his Bitcoin password. Transgender attorneys are organizing. The FBI investigated deepfakes of Susie Wiles, White House chief of staff. Security organizations have warned of deepfake sentinels being used to probe defenses. The ABA will no longer vet judicial nominees. A government report was redone to eliminate AI-generated hallucinations. Dario Amodie, CEO of Anthropic, predicted a massive shift toward unemployment of white-collar professionals. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, predicted that those losses would be people without a facility with AI, and Ralph Losey argued that good lawyers will be augmented, not replaced, by AI. The Iberian Lawyer reported on a conference considering the boundary between human and automated decisions. Google allowed downloading to use AI models locally. International eDiscovery Trends: EDRM Trusted Partner Nuix released Neo Discover. EDRM Trusted Partner eDiscovery AI was profiled by the Business Journal. Dave Cohen, Chair of EDRM’s Project Trustees, looks back on a live webinar reviewing 25 years of eDiscovery as he approaches retirement from EDRM Trusted Partner Reed Smith. The Hon. Judge Paul Grimm (ret.) and Dr. Maura Grossman published a well-cited article about the pending changes to the US Federal Rules of Evidence regarding AI, drawing a distinction between acknowledged and unacknowledged AI. Mike Berman wrote on obstructionist discovery. Hard drives are evolving: a one-click data destruction button, and the price per GB is rapidly reducing. T-Mobile records some users’ screens by default; here are the settings to turn it off. Gmail is now including AI summaries; here are the settings for that as well. Palantir may become a prolific third-party data source on the American people. The new AI device being developed by Jony Ive and Sam Altman may be ambient, aka always on. World Events Impacting Legal Tech: ComplexDiscovery OU analyzed the Ukraine drone attack on Russia’s bombers while also covering the Latitude59 2025 conference in Tallinn, Estonia. An international flotilla of humanitarian aid set sail for Gaza, and firebombs injured participants in a demonstration in the US supporting Israeli hostages. Karol Nawrocki won the Polish presidency. Unemployment rates for college graduates flipped this year, with computer science’s rate higher than art history’s. Wildfire smoke has already wafted to the Midwest US this season. A Swiss village was buried by a glacier. More than 700 souls were lost during Nigeria’s intense storms and flooding. Covid vaccine recommendations have changed.
