The word of the week is erupt.

Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano eruptedAll eyes are on Hawaii as they begin to reckon with the wildfire’s death and destruction.  A candidate who pledged to take on cartels was assassinated in Ecuador.  The mitigation for the “Downfall” vulnerability affecting newer Intel chips reportedly has a 30 plus percent speed impact. Microsoft will change its terms of service for how its AI can be used in September.  An intoxicated judge allegedly shot his wife.  The Perseid meteor shower was on full display.

In legal tech this week, EDRM congratulates David Greetham of our Trusted Partner, PC Forensics, who combined forces with Level Legal. Doug Austin covered the opening of the Gayle O’Connor Spirit Award nominations. The Internet Archive negotiated a settlement with four book publishers about scanning and making books available. Here’s a look into the Black Hat network operations center. EDRM Trusted Partner, Exterro, announced Ariana Tadler, the founding partner of Tadler Law LLP, as the 2023 Honorable Shira Scheindlin Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree.

The team working with co-Trustees Monica Harris and Matt Rasmussen on the infographic for text/short messaging released their public comment version last month.  Public comments for the final 1.0 were complete August 1, 2023.

The AI Ethics and Bias project team lead by Khrys McKinney released its white paper: “Professional Responsibility Considerations in AI for eDiscovery: Competence, Confidentiality, Privacy and Ownership.

EDRM updated its policies by adding our DEI & B initiative and our Generative AI and Large Language Model policy.   Read them all here
