Dearest EDRM community,

The word of the week is escalate.

Flooding in NYC was so bad last week that a sea lion escaped its enclosure at the zooArmenians are fleeing the Nagorno-Karabakh region in Azerbaijan.  Slovakia elected a pro-Putin majority. The US National Security Agency (NSA) announced a cyber center for AI. Results of an experiment with GenAI and consulting tasks underscores the need for training humans.  Productivity had a measurable increase for those working from home. In unrelated news, JP Morgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon predicts AI will bring about a 3.5 day work week.

Sexual harassment plaintiffs had their sensitive personal data exfiltrated from the law firm representing them by an organized ransomware gang as Orrick faces its own breachallegations.  Should it be presumed that computers are working correctly unless demonstrated to be false or should the reverse be true? Andrew Haslam’s eDisclosure Buyer’s Guide was updated by ComplexDiscovery in September and includes EDRM Trusted Partner Designation to Appropriate Supplier and Software Listings.  Doug Austin has an excerpt from the ILTA Technology Report showing a cavern between enthusiastic business use and trepidatious use in legal practice.  Ever the contrarian, Joe Patrice explores GenAI’s potential for more billables. Tom O’Connor shares his Relativity Fest Recap here.

EDRM Announces Hire Counsel as newest Trusted Partner.

The DupeID project, led by Trustee Beth Patterson, announced that four major platforms have implemented the EDRM MIH for cross-platform email duplicate identification.  Reveal, Relativity, edt and Nuix support the EDRM MIH in their respective platforms with Law In Order writing the app for Relativity support.

The Priv Log project, led by Trustee Cristin Traylor, considered the public comments submitted and published its final paper this last week.

EDRM Project Leaders Khrys McKinney (AI Ethics/Bias), Cristin Traylor (Priv Logs), Jay Yelton (Special Masters and Discovery Mediators), Monica Harris and Matt Rasmussen (Short Message Metadata Primer 1.0) and Dave Cohen (GDPR) updated the community on progress on the EDRM Global Webinar channel.  It’s available on demand if you missed it.

EDRM updated its Generative AI and Large Language Model policy to address the need for disclosure and fact checking, with consequences. Read all the policies here.
