Dearest EDRM community,

The word of the week is incursion.

Israel was invaded and declared war with Hamas. Black hat hackers who compromised 23 and Me, the genetic platform, are selling the personal information of those with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry.   Pakistan has given Afghani refugees until October 30 to leave the country even as an earthquake killed 2400+. AI Software companies are considering joining hardware companies like Apple in making chips as hyperspecialized processing units take on NVIDIA’s parallel processing GPU’s.  Amazon disclosed it uses conversations with Alexa to train AI.  DeepMind is building generalist AI for multiple types of robots.

Michael Mills, founder of Neota Logic, left us too early. Niki Black lights the way with  “The Path to Generative AI for Legal Professionals.”  Casey Flaherty and Lex Fusion hosted a candid conversation on how AI is actually being used.  Applications for coveted spots in the ABA TECHSHOW’s Startup Alley are open. The Future Society and the IEEE have published an ESI Protocol.  Rob Robinson has a new article out on The Role of Fluidity in Accelerating AI in eDiscovery. EDRM Announced Hire Counsel as its newest Trusted Partner.

The DupeID project, led by Trustee Beth Patterson, announced that four major platforms have implemented the EDRM MIH for cross-platform email duplicate identification.  Reveal, Relativity, edt and Nuix support the EDRM MIH in their respective platforms with Law In Order writing the app for Relativity support.

The Priv Log project, led by Trustee Cristin Traylor, considered the public comments submitted and published its final paper last week.

EDRM Project Leaders Khrys McKinney (AI Ethics/Bias), Cristin Traylor (Priv Logs), Jay Yelton (Special Masters and Discovery Mediators), Monica Harris and Matt Rasmussen (Short Message Metadata Primer 1.0) and Dave Cohen (GDPR) updated the community on progress on the EDRM Global Webinar channel.  It’s available on demand if you missed it.

EDRM updated its Generative AI and Large Language Model policy to address the need for disclosure and fact checking. Read all the policies here.
