- Global Legal Tech Developments: Just Security released “Maintaining the Rule of Law in the Age of AI.” Glassdoor added short videos, polls, and images to its site for anonymous discussion of employers. Apple’s IOS 18 allows SOS calls to satellites even without cell coverage. Rhys Dipshan reports that JAMS is launching an AI initiative to assist with mediation. EvenUp, a legal tech startup creating artificial intelligence products for the personal injury sector, raised a $135 million Series D at a valuation of more than $1 billion (Crunchbase).
- International eDiscovery Trends: EDRM Trusted Partner Exterro polled the experts on Modern Attachments. Ralph Losey continued to explore the jagged edge of GenAI. The Summer 2024 eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey results indicate budget concerns are dwarfing technology or personnel challenges. We are grateful for Doug Austin’s Kitchen Sink for including the Hon. Ralph Artigliere’s call to the bar to embrace AI, Mike Berman on Boilerplate Objections that passed muster, and Rob Robinson’s coverage of privacy-seeking Max Shrems latest GDPR win, along with Gates Dogfish’s meme of the week.
- World Events Impacting Legal Tech: The US sent 100 troops with an anti-missile system to defend Israel. North Korea is assisting Russia in Ukraine. Communities are on edge as Florida and North Carolina continue to dig out from hurricane damage, and even the Sahara Desert has flooded. Elon Musk’s SpaceX grabbed a descending rocket with giant mechanical arms. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Hiroshima survivors and activists. The heavens hosted auroras and an extremely rare comet last week.
