In legal tech this week, we’ve turned our calendars to 2025 and look back at 2024 with all that has transpired in our families, community, and the world writ large. We’re grateful to have had time with our special people, and we are ever so glad to be back with you!

India’s Draft on Privacy, with unique features to keep minors safe, is up for public comment. Legal filings have been described as “the new publishing platform” by Axios. Meta ends experimental AI-generated personalities on their platforms. The New Orleans terrorist used Meta Ray Ban glasses to record Bourbon Street as part of his preparation for his mass murders. California mandated that a human be in the loop for medical insurance decisions. Matter, an emerging new home connectivity standard, was celebrated at CES last week.

International eDiscovery Trends: Congratulations to Proteus on celebrating their 10^th Anniversary. Rob Robinson at Complex Discovery sees a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 12 percent for eDiscovery Software as he prepares to release the influential 2024-2029 eDiscovery Market Size Mashup, with a nod toward the AI adoption rates found in the Fall 2024 eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey. Mike Berman recounted his top blogs of 2024 while continuing his analyses of productions, privilege, and eDiscovery protocols. At the beginning of a new year, Harvard published approaches to preserving data for 100 years. iCloud storage limits and options to retain or delete attachments can cause holes in evidence chains. Windows 10 will soon be End of Life (EOL). Doug Austin’s first Kitchen Sink of 2025 covers Complex Discovery’s gift to product managers, a deconstructed list of the eDiscovery workstream with possible AI approaches to augment or transform, in addition to many other wonderful articles.

World Events Impacting Legal Tech: Wikipedia is tracking the incoming Trump administration nominees and appointees. Foreign Policy analyzed the upcoming global elections for 2025. Elon Musk, in addition to his cost-cutting efficiency initiative in the US, is weighing in on German and British politics. Ukraine cut off a major European conduit of energy from Russia as an oil spill is cleaned up in the Crimean Sea. Wired looked at the Russia-Ukraine War from a tech perspective. Swiss re-released numbers on extreme weather economic losses, with suggestions to mitigate them.
