- Global Legal Tech Developments: David Horrigan pointed to a report sponsored by Relativity and FTI by Ari Kaplan, which stated that general counsel’s concern about regulatory compliance increased from 30 to 41% year to year. Microsoft has released a multi-modal agentic AI platform called Magma that can control software and robots. The Thomson Reuters-Ross case has implications for IP protection and training data for AI.
- International eDiscovery Trends: The Li v. Merck case prompted Mike Berman to write on preservation triggers and spoliation interrogatories. Ralph Losey tested three offerings from Google and three from OpenAI using the prompt, “What is legal reasoning?” sharing both the process and the results, with Doug Austin highlighting ZDNet’s benchmarking app. Thank you to Doug for including Aaron Patton’s Gates Dogfish, Ralph Losey, Mike Berman, and ComplexDiscovery in his Kitchen Sink. - World Events Impacting Legal Tech: The BBC reports a deal is close regarding the minerals in Ukraine, and ComplexDiscovery reported on the Institute of War’s assessment of Ukraine. Israel sent tanks into Gaza. US military leadership, including the leaders of JAG, were switched out. Quantum computers are years, not decades away, announced Microsoft. ComplexDiscovery analyzed the impact of AI and data centers on power, water, and sustainability.
