Dearest EDRM community,

The word of the week is develop.

Morocco’s earthquake claims over 2000 souls, survivors need assistance.  Floods hit Hong Kong and Southern China and Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano is erupting. Supercomputers making LLMs use tons of water.  Walter Isaacson’s book on Elon Musk already has corrections, such as what happened with Ukraine’s underwater drone sneak attack. The G20 announced a railway to connect India, the Middle East and Europe. Perks to get back in the office.

Rob Robinson of ComplexDiscovery has his 31st Quarterly eDiscovery Business Confidence Survey- Fall Edition out. With 15 short questions including three new multiple-choice questions focused on understanding the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in the eDiscovery ecosystem. We highly encourage you to share your knowledge on the survey, it takes 3-5 minutes.  Dennis Kennedy released a white paper on using GenAI as a mastermind group with personae. Marco Imperiale launched Better Ipsum, which he says will take a human centric legal design approach which includes legal wellbeing (via Caroline Hill). Craig Ball has extensively revised and expanded his guide for testifying experts, now called “Being the Better Expert Witness: A Primer for Forensic Examiners.”  Thomson Reuters introduced authenticity tools for journalists, which may inform deep fake detection for eDiscovery evidence.  Consilio bought Lawyers on Demand and SYKE. In a long read of short messages, Brian Inkster hands out magic wands to those with a true “legal” use for GenAI. Kiwi Camara stepped down as CEO of DISCO, while board member Scott Hill takes the reins.
